Ingredient Swaps

  • Apple: Swap for pear, berries, banana or another fruit you already have.

  • Walnuts: Use almonds, pecans, mixed nuts or a spoonful of nut butter.

  • Cinnamon: Try mixed spice or a small amount of vanilla extract.

  • Honey: Leave it out or replace it with maple syrup.

Meal Prep

This bowl is best assembled shortly before eating, but you can dice the apple and portion the walnuts ahead of time.

If preparing it the night before, add a small squeeze of lemon juice to the apple to help prevent browning. Keep the walnuts separate until serving so they remain crunchy.

Coach’s Notes

  • Cottage cheese is a simple way to build a high-protein breakfast without cooking. Its combination of protein and relatively slow digestion can help keep you satisfied throughout the morning.

  • This is also a useful option when you want something quick but need more than a piece of fruit or slice of toast. The apple adds carbohydrates and fibre, while the walnuts provide healthy fats and texture.

  • Choose a cottage cheese you enjoy eating. The taste and consistency can differ significantly between brands.
